The dock is on the West side of the island. The ferry technically could transport cars, but most roads on the island are too narrow for cars, anyway. (It's such a small place that cars aren't worth it. The weather is usually nice, so people don't mind walking and biking.)
That building over the river contains a hyrdo-electric power generator. It's the only electricity source on the island, pretty much. It's also a student-union type building. It contains the dining hall, the student book store (also sells lab equipment and art supplies) and an auditorium.
The three square-ish buildings in the south are the main academic places. The science/art building and the liberal arts building were built when the school started. The computer lab building was added later. It also has non-computer classroom space (school grew, they needed more room) and a library.
The dorms are north of the classrooms. (There's an appartment complex downtown, too.) Pets are allowed on most floors. The rooms don't have any fabric or carpet in them (besides what students bring), so stuff getting damaged by pets isn't a big problem.
The school's remote location makes it difficult for students to bring their stuff home durring vacation and then bring it back again, so the move-in/move-out system is a bit different. Durring breaks, some students store things in unused classrooms (since it's break) designated for it and leave for vacation. A lot of them just stay on the island (going anywhere usually requires a plane ticket). On a day with good weather, everyone moves the contents of their room onto the lawn. Once everyone is moved out, they move in again.
I don't know a lot about what's in a college gym... Anyway, there is one. If someone knows what would be in the gym at a small college, please tell me. It's nicknamed "the football" because it's shaped funny. There's also a sports field accross the road. They use the same field for pretty much everything. It's mainly club sports, since it's difficult to transport the team to other shcools for games.
In the north, there's forest and a lot of hiking trails. The trailhead building is used as a classroom for some science classes (forestry, biology, etc.)
The building labeled "emergency" contains the police station. They also have a fire truck and some EMTs there. (such a small town that they don't have them in seperate buildings.)
The red parts are residential neighborhoods, and the area behind the police station is a park. The rest is where buisnesses are.
I made a list of stores and resturaunts. I've probably missed stuff, so if you want something else, too, say so. The economy is pretty much driven by the school. The non-students tend to be geeky, too.
_Stores_
- comic shop
- coffee shop / used book store
- hobby shop (also gaming stuff)
- gorcery/pharmacy
- clothing stores (maybe about 3-4)
- drug store (sells random small things like gum and toiletries)
- art studio (members can use the studio space, maybe there's also classes to take)
- pet shop
- sporting goods (emphasis on bikes)
- dojo (martial arts school)
- junk shop (buys and sells used stuff, often unusual things)
- costume / craft / fabric shop
- hardware store
- garden store
- eletronics
- hairdresser
- lazer tag
_Resturaunts_
- Awesomesauce Pizza
- diner
- cuisine (Thai or Chineese or Indian or something. There might be more than one forign food resturaunt.)
- take-out sandwiches + snacks
- seafood
- bakery
- bar
- chain resturaunt(s)
So... pick out some that look fun, then elaborate on them. (How many people work there, what are the employees like? Who owns it? Who hangs out there (ex: a paticular resturaunt is popular with the sports clubs because it's near the stadium)? How big, what location? (you can draw it on a copy of the map, or just give a general location, or say it doesn't matter) What makes it unusual?)
Floorplans are nice to have, but they take a while, so it's okay to not do them. I can just make them later when we see where the characters like to hang out.
I'll do the ones that no one is interested in. _________________
Sorry, but I can't GM the RPG anymore. I just don't have enough time for it now that school is in session. If anyone else wants to, go ahead and take over. _________________
Lala I still want to do this! But the thread keeps dying and reviving sporadically, lol..... ><;; How many people would (realistically) be able to keep up with this if I started this up again..? :3
Edit: If I ran this, I would probably dumb it down a bit, since I don't want to make things too complicated. A group started a really neat idea over at Aohc and I might do something like that, where it's pretty much just a group of students at a school, and the teachers give out 'assignments' which you complete by drawing an illustration, or doing a short comic of your character completing it (ex: "go find the lily of the valley" = illustration of my char picking fighting a monster guarding the lily). Then when we're more used to it, start bringing in the whole villain-is-out-to-end-the-world which nightmare was talking about. :3 _________________ A tumblr not of whisky, but of ...brandy??.
I think I could cope with that idea- I like to have art assignments to do, it keeps me on my toes. _________________ "...well, I'd rather see a resolution without any dead bishies or unwanted magical sex changes, but that's just me." ~Brendan

:O I totally want in. I haven't done a real RPG in forever, but this looks too cool to pass up. School is out forever for me so I'll churn out a character sheet as soon as possible.
The art assignment thing sounds interesting - it could give an extra incentive to do the Tomgeeks Academy project too - do a mini comic with just your character or another (if you want to do collabs) on an epic assignment of some sort. Good practice but not necessary for everyone to do if they haven't the time.
I was speed reading throught the posts and someone mentioned going to Cons - we could develop a plot that's con based, and based on the theme it could be very interesting (anime vs game vs sci-fi-only types of conventions).
For another plot, maybe we could do something related to video games? As an insane "science project" someone comes up with a video-game 3D helmet that lets you delve into the actual game itself... but secretly he/she is sucking out the souls/powers/whatever of the people who play it through the helm. At the end of the plot you could have a teacher come up and give detention to the people who got addicted to the actual video game for not paying enough attention to their studies.
I can probably help out with floorplans/blue prints too. I love world building, but I haven't done something like this in awhile... I could try my hand at it if no one else is up for it.
EDIT: What'd be REALLY AWESOME is if everyone participating had a Tomgeeks school ID, regardless of student or teacher status. I think it would help unify the partcipants, and since they are small can be posted instead of character sheets (if we have an official listing) to conserve space and bandwith. Also participants can post their ID's onto their own websites and link back to the project if it gets big enough.

I'm not terribly fond of double posting but my previous post was kinda big and this one haz art. I spent way too long on this, mostly from using GIMP's awful text editor for the first time. Either the font wasn't right/big enough/chunk of text missing/text was covering art and so on, but after much labor and love I bring you a very over-worked sheet of idkwhatisgoingon:
I looked up the forum rules but I didn't quite find one on image size limits so if this is took big I'll scale it down.
Yes I really do dress like that shush D:/
For you non RPG-geeky persons, all that green text is silly stats stuff. SPD = speed, SPR= Spirit, STR = strength. I was going to put more red text but then I realized, who wears gear that brings their stats down anyway?
Conclusion: Argyles are kind of a pain.
...just realized I should have added pupils. Whatever, I'll fix it later. XD
